Basement Systems of West Virginia Case Studies: Waterproofing, Finishing Basement in Fairmont Animal Clinic

Wednesday, February 11th, 2015 by Kate Maxwell

Dr. Hartman bought a building in Fairmont, West Virginia, to open up a new animal clinic and boarding facility. The building was built in 1955, and like many West Virginia structures it suffered from a mildew filled basement. Not only did the basement of the building smell bad but it also was very humid. There was an entrance to the crawl space in the basement that was allowing a lot of moisture and spiders into the basement.

Basement Systems of West Virginia had worked on her private residence a few years back, and she was extremely satisfied with the results. Dr. Hartman knew exactly who to trust when it came to her veterinary clinic.

Dr. Hartman called Basement Systems of West Virginia to get a free no obligation inspection and estimate.

It wasn't long after we started to work on her clinic that we found damage in the walls. Basement Systems of West Virginia worked with this problem and still managed to provide an affordable, clean space. Basement Systems of West Virginia installed a SaniDry dehumidifier, EverLast Wall Restoration System, ThermalDry Flooring System, and CleanSpace.

The SaniDry is a powerful and effective dehumidifier that will dry the air and automatically drain the water out of a hose, so it will never have to emptied. The SaniDry will take ten times the water out of the air as a typical dehumidifier, but it still uses the same energy.

The Everlast Finished Wall Restoration System is a perfect solution to the mildew accumulating on basement walls. With this system, the entire basement wall does not have to be replaced. There is no drywall, paint, or wood to get ruined if it ever gets wet. Instead, the panels in her office are insulated with SliverGlo and made out of cement board.  The panels are covered with a textured washable vinyl finish, and the trim is all plastic -- nothing for mold to grow on!

The ThermalDry Flooring System takes the cold basement floor and turns it into a warm, comfortable, and clean space. The tiles have pegs on the under side that raises the flooring off the existing floor. This allows a thermal break and for water to not accumulate. It won't ever get moldy and if you ever damage a tile, you can easily replace one tile instead of a whole section of flooring.

We installed CleanSpace to the crawl space and on some exterior, unfinished walls to keep them warm and clean. It's 20 mil thick, which is one of our heaviest liners. It's contains UltraFresh antimicrobial protection, which prevents mold and mildew from growing.

With all of these great products working together, Basement Systems of West Virginia has provided Dr. Hartman at White Hall Animal Clinic a great new space that will be ideal for boarding and caring for animals. We transformed her basement from a dark musty-smelling space to a bright, fresh-smelling boarding area and offices.
