Encapsulating a Crawl Space in Mount Clare, West Virginia

A Mount Clare homeowner called Basement Systems of West Virginia for a free, no obligation inspection and estimate. The system design specialist performed an estimate and determined that the crawl space of the home needed to be encapsulated.

The crews set to work on encapsulating the crawl space by using CleanSpace technology. The CleanSpace liner is 20 mil thick, which is the thickest liner. The CleanSpace liner will isolate the home from the earth, while providing complete encapsulation- saving the homeowner money on their heating/cooling bills. In addition to CleanSpace, the crews at Basement Systems of West Virginia installed a SmartSump pump and a SaniDry dehumidifier. All of these products play an important role in the crawl space encapsulation system.

The homeowner is extremely happy with the results, the crawl space is overall warmer and remains a constant temperature. No longer does the homeowner need to worry about excessive moisture accumulating and causing problems in the home.

Homeowners in Mt. Clare, WV. had tried numerous attempts to keep their crawl space dry and warm.  The out dated notion of cross air vents and a thin line of plastic sheeting to circulate air around in the crawl space is not effective, in fact, it's counter productive!  Homeowners were fed up and called the great team at Basement Systems of West Virginia for a free inspection and estimate.  After speaking with the basement and crawl space specialist they decided to invest in their family's home and proceed with installing CleanSpace and a SmartSump pump.  And boy, they are SO glad that they did! The crawl space is clean, dry and warm, not to mention bright!

WaterGuard captures water seepage through walls and leaks along the wall/floor junction, it's nearly invisible when installed (and carpet can be installed right over top of it). It's faster, easier and less expensive to install than exterior drainage systems, and it's rugged plastic construction will never corrode or decay.  The homeowners are ecstatic with the results and look forward to all the peace of mind and safe and dry basement days ahead of them!

WaterGuard drainage channel is an innovative interior drainage system designed to permanently solve basement water problems. Unlike French drains that are installed outside the foundation or alongside the footing, WaterGuard drains can’t clog with silt or plant roots.

They decided to install WaterGuard and a trench drain in their basement to channel unwanted water to their new SuperSump, which will then carry the water up, out, and away from the home- keeping the basement clean, safe, and dry.

Here you can see the trench has been dug out along the perimeter of the basement floor, and weep holes have been drilled along the wall.  The trench is dug just deep and wide enough to fit the WaterGuard inside, the weep holes are drilled to allow water to flow into the WaterGuard system that will carry the water to the sump pump that will then take the water up, out, and away from the home.

WaterGuard drainage channel has a patented profile that includes a wall flange with spacers for collecting wall seepage, channel holes that allow ground water to enter the drain line, and a large-diameter channel that can’t crush or kink like standard plastic drain tile can.

The major leakage zone in any basement is the perimeter, where basement walls meet the slab floor. Ground water that seeps through basement walls will flow down toward the floor.

Hydrostatic pressure during wet weather will often force ground water into the basement along the wall-floor joint.

Thanks to its unique profile, WaterGuard effectively captures wall and floor seepage before it reaches the basement floor. The drainage system transports all ground water to a sump pump, so that it can be pumped outside. Once the WaterGuard system is installed, you’ll hardly know that it’s there. The drainage channel is hidden beneath a layer of concrete. Only the top edge of the wall flange is visible.

Overlook Drive in Mount Clare
I had a new home built and completed at the end of Sept 08. The builder refused to pump water out. As of 1/26/09 I still have water and he said it would go away. Since he did not pump out I was not able to asses the situation. About a month ago he did bail out because I was putting pressure on him. He either lied or I am getting water somewhere. Regardless there has always been water in crawlspace. During construction it rained so they drilled holes in the floor. The contractor said the water got trapped and may dry by the end of this summer. I do not trust him.
